Tell your story.
I help researchers to talk about their science, in whatever way they need to, to any audience they want to reach.
I combine a passion for effective communication with a deep understanding of science. I have, as Liam Neeson put it, a very particular set of skills. Take a look at some of the work I’ve done below — if you like what you see and want to get in touch, just give me a yell.
What do you need?
If you’ve got a story to tell, research to share, an amazing team that need skills boosting, educational resources you want to build, or a crowd that you want to enthuse, then we really should talk!

Increasingly, researchers require the confidence and skills to communicate with a variety of audiences — journalists to school kids, politicians to pub crowds.
Communication and presentation skills are vital for science graduates, and students expect comms training throughout their degrees. Researchers need guidance and practice to turn research findings into policy recommendations.
I can tailor a programme to your needs, to provide valuable experience with storytelling, writing, presenting, and turning research into policy — fine-tuned to build confidence and hone skills.

Sample videos: YouTube playlist
Sample podcasts: Potential • syzygyI love finding interesting, surprising and effective ways to tell the stories of science. There's so much amazing science out there, so many tales to tell.
I script, film and edit videos about science and scientists, from fun animated explainers to on-location interviews — even an immersive 360° video about nuclear fusion for an inflatable dome.
Podcasts are a fantastic way to showcase your team’s talent and unique research. I can help you shape, produce, record and distribute audio content and resources about your work.
As a one-person outfit, I can make something that looks and sounds great — especially on a tight budget!

Sometimes you don't need the picture, you need the thousand words. I can help you to strip out the unnecessary jargon, unbury the lede, get the story front and centre, bring your personality to the fore and tailor your science for your chosen audience.
I have written and edited news, columns, interviews and feature articles about science for years at the University of Sydney, and more recently at the Australian National University.
Most importantly, I know how research (and researchers) work, and what media publications are looking for.

I'm a talented and engaging presenter, interviewer, MC and event host, whether it's Science-in-the-Pub style live events, hosting public talks, inspiring school students with fun science shows, or wrapping up a conference dinner with some science cabaret.
I've told jokes about quantum physics, sung songs about global warming, spun stories about science in the era of Fake News, enthralled pre-school kids in remote Australian towns, and interviewed Nobel laureates about receiving that call from Sweden.
Whatever your event entails, I can keep things flowing, raise the energy, manage the Q&A and inject a sense of fun and style.
